Most Points Award: Sydney, Australia easily took the “Most Points” (First Place) club award with a stunning score of 165, which from my records is an all time high on the point category. Congratulations to Nancy Moxom and all of our friends down under from the Sydney Stereo Camera Club for winning the Most Points Award for 2005!

Best Participation Award: Scouring through the score sheets, I came across Detroit’s, in which 18 different photographers were listed, the maximum number possible in the 3 competitions. Southern California deserves mention as they also used the maximum number of photographers, but in hosting the final round they could only use 12 total photographers. Congratulations to the Detroit Stereographic Society for winning the “Best Participation Award”!

Slide of the Year Award: I was really happy to see my former club win something, after losing a lot of photographers over the past few years. Congratulations to Chicago Stereo Camera Club’s Russ Gager for his image entitled, “Carnival Sunrise” the ISCC Slide of the Year for 2005.

May 2005 ISCC

The Stereo Club of Southern California hosted the May, 2005, competition at their regular stereo meeting.

Here at last, the long awaited final results from the ISCC 2004/2005 season. An excerpt from the write up provided by Philip Steinman, ISCC Rep for the Stereo Club of Southern California:

“The Stereo Club of Southern California was delighted to host the May 2005 ISCC exhibition. … The SCSC judges were James Comstock (our famous Orchid, Nude and Burning Man stereographer), Ray Zone (our famous 3-D anaglyph master comic book artist, 2D-3D converter, 3D Historian and SCSC past president), and Scott Ressler (our renown Hollywood on the Set 3D stereographer). The SCSC audience was inspired by the many stunning images sent in by each of the clubs chairman; 6 images from each of 7 clubs plus some very special bonus slides that were eligible for Slide of the Year.

Scoring: SCSC uses a 5-8 scoring system, that’s all our veterans know, and ISCC uses a 1-4 scoring system, and frankly I forgot to enforce the 1-4 system. Actually SCSC has a 9 score too, but our judges like to think they are so tough, they never use them, they just like knowing there’s a higher # than an 8 to aspire to. Anyhow, the scores all translate well into the traditional ISCC scoring range once I subtracted 72 from every clubs’ score to bring us back to the 1-4 range … sorry for the fret.”

About SCSC’s scoring: Philips’ math, is in fact, correct here. I’m not encouraging the implementation of different scoring methods that a particular host club favors in future ISCC judgings. The logic: ‘8’ is twice ‘4’ and ‘5’ is the minimum score, therefor it appears SCSC’s scoring translates accurately (numerically at least) to the ISCC 1-4 pt. system:

The Math: Subtracting 72 points
3 judges times (the extra) 4 points each = 12 points (total possible each slide)
12 points times 6 slides (per club) = 72 point (reduction)

To avoid any possible misinterpretations or unnecessary subjectivity, or even worse, complaints, from other clubs in the future, my preference would be that clubs use the 1-4 point system. Here’s how the scoring was figured – before and after the ‘So Cal. -72 handicap’
